The Home of RLC Motorcycling
Dalton Barracks, Abingdon
With it's own off-road
training area, a fleet of general purpose motorcycles, and some of the
top riders in the Army, Dalton Barracks near Abingdon has evolved into
the Centre of Excellence for Corps motorcycling. It is also the home of six consecutive years Army Champions, 4 Logistic
Support Regiment RLC.
The Royal Logistic Corps Enduro
Team has been competing since the Corps' formation in 1993. Prior
to that, riders of the Royal Corps of Transport are traced back to 1966
and in time hopefully further than that.
Currently six
soldiers make up two teams, this year riding Yamaha 2 and 4 stroke
machines. Support crews comprise potential team riders, Long-haired
Colonels (the wives) and other interested volunteers.
There are numerous events and championships held
Nationally and Internationally. The RLC has been represented in many of
them. The
team competes in the British and European Enduro championships and
selected riders represent the British Army in the International Six Day
Enduro
(ISDE). Over the years
there has been a lot of success with riders winning individual British
titles in their respective classes and the team often lifting the
service cup.
All Corp Team riders have to show expert
proficiency with the General Purpose
Motorcycle (Harley Davidson 350cc). Following a season or two of
competing on the Harley, anyone interested in representing the Corps
would be expected to own their own machine and compete on it for another
season or two. Training days and team trials are held at Dalton Barracks
and are open to any serving member of the RLC. If selected you too could
be riding a sponsored machine and competing in Brazil and Australia, oh
and Catterick! |
